Cox Construction was contacted by Gardner to provide a new machine base of some 30m2 at their premises in Basildon to a specification laid down by the makers of a Mazak SDR60.
With the redundant machine removed, the discovery of a disused monolithic concrete base some 4.0m square and 800mm deep called for a revised method to meet Gardner’s requirements.
Working in conjunction with KSS Diamond Drilling and Cutting, the floor surrounding the obstruction was cut into sections and uplifted using catch plates. Cores were then cut and the block burst into manageable sizes and removed from site. Excavation works could then proceed and with the rebar fixed, concreting was carried out with minimal delay to the programme.
